Should We Trade Biomass, Electricity, Renewable Certificates, or Co2 Credits?

چکیده
This paper describes different trading options that exist to reconcile the geographical disparities between supply and demand for bioenergy and bioenergy services, depending upon the specific situation of the “exporting” and “importing” country. Trade in biomass fuels, electricity, renewable certificates, and CO2 credits are introduced and presented as options for business and policy makers as they try to meet increasing energy demands while at the same time addressing national and international commitments to reducing CO2 (GHG) emissions and increasing renewable energy sources.

Economics of Energy Efficiency in a CO2 Constrained World
Greenhouse gas emission trading programs have been initiated in the European Union, Canada and the United States in an effort to harness market forces to efficiently reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Three major methods for reducing or offsetting greenhouse gas emissions are purchasing greenhouse gas emission reduction credits, purchasing renewable energy certificates, and improving energy effic...

Three types of policies that are prominent in the federal debate over addressing greenhouse gas emissions in the United States are a cap-and-trade program (CTP) on emissions, a renewable portfolio standard (RPS) for electricity production, and tax credits for renewable electricity producers. Each of these policies would have different consequences, and combinations of these policies could induc...
متن کاملRenewable Hydrogen Utilisation for the Production of Methanol
Electrolytic hydrogen production is an efficient way of storing renewable-energy generated electricity and securing the contribution of renewables in future electricity supply. The use of this hydrogen for the production of methanol results in a liquid fuel that can be utilised directly with minor changes in the existing infrastructure. To utilise the renewable-generated hydrogen for the produc...

This article uses computer simulation to anticipate the price dynamics in a market for Tradable Green Certificates (TGCs). These markets have been used in Europe to promote generation of electricity from renewable resources like wind. Similar markets have been proposed in the United States of America (USA) where the certificates are called Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). The certificates are i...

Creation of an internal market for renewable electricity will involve a political negotiation process, similar to previous EU greenhouse gas negotiations. The Energy Ministers in the EU have agreed on an overall target of 22% of electricity supply from Renewable Energy Sources (RESE) and a distribution of targets over the individual Member States. The REBUS project provides insights in the effe...
